History of the CAPA Athletics club, Cercle d’Athlétisme de la Porte des Ardennes (CAPA)
The CAPA Athletics club, officially known as the Cercle d’Athlétisme de la Porte des Ardennes (CAPA), is one of the staple track and field clubs in Luxembourg. Located in the northern town of Ettelbruck, the club is affiliated with the Fédération Luxembourgeoise d’Athlétisme (FLA).
Meaning of the Name
The name pays homage to Ettelbruck’s regional identity. Ettelbruck is traditionally nicknamed the “Porte des Ardennes” (Gateway to the Ardennes) because of its geographic location where the rolling central hills of Luxembourg meet the rugged Ardennes highlands.
Facilities and Base
The club trains and hosts its major events, like the CAPA Open, at the Stade du Deich (or Stade Am Deich) in Ettelbruck. The sports complex sits alongside the Alzette river and features an outdoor athletics track equipped for running, jumping, and throwing events.
