The GP Lucien Van Impe (Grote Prijs Lucien Van Impe) is a Belgian professional road cycling race held in the municipality of Erpe-Mere, East Flanders. Though named after a legendary high-mountain climber, the race itself is set on the rolling, wind-exposed roads and short punchy hills characteristic of Flemish cycling.
The Name Behind the Race
The event honors Lucien Van Impe, born in Mere in 1946. Van Impe is one of Belgium’s greatest modern cycling figures, best known for winning the 1976 Tour de France and securing six Tour de France mountains classification titles (polka dot jersey) between 1971 and 1983. To this day, he remains the last Belgian male rider to win the Tour de France overall.

Men’s Local Roots (1927–2022)
