The 50th edition of the Grand Prix Rüebliland (UCI 2.1 Men Junior) takes place in Switzerland from September 3 to September 6, 2026. For its 50th anniversary, the premier junior stage race expanded from 3 to 4 days.

The Grand Prix Rüebliland is one of the premier multi-day road cycling stage races for junior riders (ages 17–18). Held annually in early September in the Canton of Aargau, Switzerland, it serves as a critical proving ground for future professional cyclists.
The name “Rüebliland” comes from the Swiss-German nickname for the region of Aargau, which translates to “Carrot Country.”
Founding & Early Years (1977)
- Established: Founded in 1977 to create an international multi-stage event for junior athletes in Switzerland.
- Inaugural Winner: American cyclist Greg Alison won the first edition in 1977.
- Growth: During the late 1970s and 1980s, the race rapidly expanded its international reach, drawing top junior talent from across Europe and North America.
UCI Status & Development
- UCI Junior World Cup: The event became a cornerstone of the junior calendar and was included in the UCI Junior World Cup until 2007.
- Current Status: It remains classified as a 2.1 Men Junior (MJ) event by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
- Race Format: The race typically runs over three to four days and consists of rolling road stages alongside an individual or team time trial.
Stepping Stone to Professional Success
The Grand Prix Rüebliland has earned a reputation for predicting future WorldTour stars. Many grand tour contenders, classic specialists, and world champions raced—and won—at Rüebliland before turning professional.
- Notable Past Participants & Winners:
- Gerrit de Vries (NED) – The only two-time overall winner in race history.
- Michele Scarponi (ITA) – Finished on the podium as a junior in 1997.
- Lars Bak (DEN) – Top performer in 1998.
- Dozens of current WorldTour professionals and national champions got their early stage-race experience on its hilly Aargau routes.
