The UEC European Cyclo-cross Championships, organized by the Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC), have become a major fixture in the cyclo-cross season.
- Inception: The championships were first held in 2003 in Tábor, Czech Republic.2 They take place annually in November, typically marking the beginning of the heart of the cyclo-cross season.3
- Categories: The event initially featured races for:
- Elite Women4
- Under-23 Men5
- Junior Men6
- Note: An Under-23 Women’s category was added later, and the Elite Men’s race was introduced for the 2015/2016 season, having initially only been contested at the World Championships.
- Junior Women were also added, completing the main categories.7
- Recent Addition: A Mixed Relay (Team Relay) event was introduced as the seventh medal event in 2023.8
- The Jersey: Winners of the Championships are entitled to wear a special European Champion’s jersey in all applicable races for the following year.9
- Dominant Nations: The Netherlands and Belgium have historically been the most successful nations, dominating the medal tables across all categories.
