The UEFA U17 Qualifiers are the qualifying competition for the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, an annual football tournament contested by the men’s under-17 national teams of UEFA member associations.
The competition determines which teams, alongside the host nation, will participate in the final tournament.
Key aspects of the qualifiers:
- Goal: To qualify teams for the 8-team UEFA European Under-17 Championship final tournament.
- Format (as of the 2024/25 season): The qualifying process consists of two stages:
- Round 1 (in autumn): Teams are drawn into groups for single-venue mini-tournaments. The top teams advance to Round 2 League A, and the remaining teams go to Round 2 League B. Even the final tournament hosts participate in the qualifying rounds, although their place in the finals is guaranteed.
- Round 2 (in spring): This round is split into two leagues:
- League A: Teams compete for the final tournament spots (usually 7 places alongside the hosts).
- League B: Teams compete for promotion to League A for the following season’s U19 EURO qualifiers.
- Significance: The UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification also often serves as the European qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The qualifying competition for the 2026 UEFA European Under-17 Championship is currently in Round 1, which runs from October to November 2025. Many of the group matches have already been played, and some Round 1 groups are complete, determining which teams advance to Round 2 League A and Round 2 League B.
The draw for Round 2 (the Elite Round) is scheduled to take place on December 10, 2025.
Round 1 results are determining the teams that will be in League A and League B for Round 2, which will be played in spring 2026. The seven winners of the Round 2 League A groups will join hosts Estonia in the final tournament.
