The Smartform Trail des Mines in Rumelange, Luxembourg, is a highly unique running event where the final stretch takes participants right through an actual historic underground iron ore mine.
Here is the essential program and race details for the 4th edition:
📅 Event Schedule
- Saturday, June 27, 2026:
- 15:00 – 18:00: Bib collection / Packet pickup.
- Sunday, June 28, 2026 (Race Day):
- 10:00: Simultaneous Start for both the 14 km and 20 km races.

🏃♂️ Race Formats & Distances
The event features two main trail courses, both capped at a combined total of 700 runners (the 2026 edition is completely sold out):
- 14 km Course: Trail / Nature run with 3 aid stations along the route.
- 20 km Course: Longer trail route with 3 aid stations along the route.
- Note: Both courses feature a final refreshment station at the finish line.
🔦 Critical Safety & Gear Requirements
Because the final 3 kilometers of the race take place inside a subterranean gallery, specific rules apply:
- Mandatory Equipment: You must wear a helmet and carry a working lamp/headlamp to enter the mine.
- Environment: The underground temperature is a constant, brisk 10°C, so plan your layers accordingly.
- Drop Zone: A dedicated transition zone is set up just before the entrance to the mine so you can retrieve your helmet and lamp if you didn’t run with them from the start.
🚿 Amenities
- Showers & Changing Rooms: Available at the Hall Sportif Will Hoffmann.
- Shuttle Service: A convenient shuttle bus connects the finish line area back to the sports hall.
