The 33rd SL Synchro Cup Open 2026, hosted by Swimming Luxembourg, is conducted under World Aquatics (WA) rules with specific local adaptations. The competition is split into two main parts: the Youth & Juniors session (May 8–10) and the Beginners & 12&Under session (June 12–14).
Below are the key rules and regulations for the 2026 edition:
1. General Competition Format
- No Finals: Rankings are determined by a single performance; no finals are held even if a session has more than 13 entries.
- Single Category Rule: Each competitor is restricted to starting in only one category.
- License Requirement: All participants must hold a valid swimming license.
- Protests: Formal protests are generally not permitted. Judges and Technical Controllers (DTCs/STCs) may only be contacted to explain decisions after the entire competition weekend concludes.
2. Discipline Specifics
Youth Category (May 8–10)
- Figures: Youth athletes perform 2 figures (following WA Rule AS 8.4).
- Medals: Awarded for the best 3 free routines based on the combined score of Figures + Routine.
- The Cup: The overall “SL Synchro Cup Open” trophy is awarded to the club with the highest total points from their best Solo (Youth), Duet (Free & Tech), and Team (Free & Tech) results.
Beginners & 12&Under (June 12–14)
- Figures: Both categories perform 4 figures.
- Hybrids: Required to have 2–3 hybrids. In the Beginners category, a “free hybrid” is defined as a combination of 3 or more movements with lower limbs and intentional apnea (head down below hip level).
- Acrobatics: 1 team acrobatic is required (following safety limits similar to 12&Under).
- Synchronization: Only “Major” synchronization mistakes are counted for the Beginners category; minor slips are ignored.
3. Technical Requirements
- Music Submission: Files must be sent in MP3 format by the specified deadlines (March 27 for Youth/Juniors; May 1 for Beginners).
- Difficulty (DD): All hybrids start with a “Base Mark” value of 0.50. Difficulty is added to this base value.
- Routine Times: Routines must follow World Aquatics AS 25.5.1 time limits, including a maximum of 10 seconds for deck movements.
4. Club Responsibilities
- Judges: Clubs are obligated to provide qualified judges based on the number of athletes entered:
- 1–7 athletes: 1 qualified judge.
- 8–15 athletes: 2 qualified judges.
- 16+ athletes: 3 qualified judges.
- Secretaries: Clubs must provide at least 3 secretaries to assist with timing, score recording, and acting as Clerks of Course. Punctuality is strictly enforced with potential fines for no-shows.
5. Safety and Insurance
- Medical Certificates: If a registered swimmer cannot attend, a medical certificate must be provided to avoid fines.
- Liability: The organizer (Swimming Luxembourg) declines responsibility for accidents, loss, or theft of personal property. Participants are responsible for their own insurance.
